PROJECT 4 - VID-EO-OH
Project Description
Just as some NYUAD students are passionate about the cats on campus, some are also crazy about plants. Thus we decided to focus this project on the relationships between NYUAD students and their plants. To do this, we interviewed three NYUAD students talking about their plants on campus.
Process
The interviews were shot in the sound stage with a DSLR camera, some lights, a zoom recorder and a microphone. We took the shots several times and selected the best ones to compile into the videos. The videos were edited in da Vinci Resolve. We decided to create the videos into categories where all three interviewees are answering the same questions to make it more interesting and allow the viewer see the different opinions rather than have three videos with only one interviewee talking throughout. The initial background design of the website included images and dark colors but we later decided to change it to brighter colors with simple but beautiful patterns to give the website a much more vibrant feel. We added a fading in and out effect on the text at the top of the page when the user scrolls as a form of interactivity. We were initially applying the fading effect based on pixels but noticed that would be a problem on bigger or smaller screens so changed it to the top position of the text container to make the fading effect responsive on any screen size. The text at the top of the page introduces the user to the theme of the page. We also created an introductory video which was placed on the second part of the page to introduce the viewer to the interviewees. On the third part of the page, the user has four video options with a short description under each video to inform the user and help him or her choose. When the user hovers over any of the videos, it expands by a small percentage to indicate that it's being hovered over. Additionally, when the user plays any of the video, it expands to cover almost the whole screen with the other three videos disappearing. A "return to videos" button displays when a video is being played to give the user the choice to go back to the four video options at any point. Similarly, when a video finishes playing, the four video options are displayed again for the user to choose from. Initially, we had plans of including an interactive game about how to take care of plants but decided at the last minute that it doesn't fit into the project.
With regards to responsibilities, Pangna, Vivi and I worked together on shooting the video. Afterwards, Vivi focused on editing the video, I focused on the building the website and Panga focused on creating the interactive game.

PROJECT 3 - AUDIOSCAPE
Project Description
This project depicted a dialogue and the development of a relationship or dependence between an old man living alone with his dog and Apple's Siri. The aim was to show how dependent we could become on artificial intelligence devices such as Siri. The audio takes the listener through a journey of casual, calm and finally emotional. The sad ending was included to create an emotional twist and enable the listener resonate with the character of Paul.
Process
We used a zoom recorder to record the voice of the character of Paul in a quiet room in the Arts Center. Prof. Michael Shiloh was kind enough to act as the voice of Paul and we did two takes since the first take was above the recommended threshold on the zoom recorder. The audio was then edited in Adobe Audition primarily because we could get easy access to Siri's voice on the software. Siri's voice was then inserted in the appropriate places in the audio. Sound effects were added at certain parts of the audio to add to the mood at that particular point. It was initially difficult for us to figure out how to depict time transition but we eventually decided to use a short music track as is done in tv shows to show time travel. Also, it was hard to find a sound depicting a phone falling so we initially used the sound of glass falling but felt it wasn't helping to tell the story well so we changed it to a mixture of sounds such a tennis ball hitting the ground and the sound of Siri's beep plus a change of the website background to an image of a broken screen to indicate that the phone had fallen. The website was designed to look like the official Siri website but with some differences. The progress bar was made to indicate the progress of the audio to the listener. At the end of the audio, the background changes from the cracked screen to the original website background to indicate that the audio has ended and the user can play it again. The layout of the website was made dynamic so it can adapt with resizing.
With regards to responsibilities, Li and I worked together on recording the sounds. Afterwards, Li focused on editing the sound while I focused on designing the website with feedback from each other at constant intervals on what to change or make better.

PROJECT 2 - COMIX STRIP
Project Description
The aim of this project was to create an interactive comic using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to be hosted on a web page. My team and I decided to tell the story of Perseus and Medusa through a model lens in our comic. We maintained some original aspects of the Greek legend such as Perseus being the son of a powerful person and Medusa's sacred face and also added modern twists and turns to the story. We moved slightly away from the typical cartoon nature of comics and explored more along the lines of realism as stated in Scott McCloud's book "Understanding Comics."
Process
We used Photoshop to create the panels using several photos from the internet. We focused on including objects in each panel that added to the meaning of the story and helped the user to understand and enjoy the comic. Both Javascript and the animation feature in Photoshop were used to create interactivity. Each panel had an animated object which guided the user on what to click on for interactivity. Transparent buttons were mainly used over the animated objects to execute interactivity when the user clicks on it. We created different kinds of interactivity for each panel to heighten user interest and engagement; ranging from the use of sound to change of panel image to pop of objects within panels. Additionally, description text was added underneath each panel to accelerate assimilation of the story by the user. A slider was created for easy navigation of the panels; we had arrows to navigate to the next panel and also dots to navigate to any panel of your choice. For the main website, we had a menu bar with buttons to allow easy navigation to the home page, comic page and credits page. The home page had a simplistic and stylistic look with a short description to welcome the user and set the tone for the comic. We used a black background for all the pages on the website because we felt it blended well with the panels and added a nice touch to the comic.

PROJECT 1 - WEBSITE
Project Description
The first project was to create a web to debut my 30MFF. The theme and concepts were food safety and the promotion of the film as well as the 2019 film festival.
Process
The background color is a hybrid of two colors with each color covering 50% of the screen. The menu bar was placed horizontally across the screen with the logo, a home button and two navigation buttons. The home page has a slider showing scenes from backstage, an image about food safety and an image on the NYUAD Fim Festival. Underneath, the slideshow is a description of the film and the website, a health fact and an advertisement of the Imagine Science Film Festival. Clicking on the "Video" button on the home page takes you to the video page. On the video page, you can watch the film and scroll down to read reviews on the film. There is also the option of entering any reviews the user has. The "People" page takes you to read the biographies of the cast and crew of the film. Clicking on the home button takes you back to the home page.
